A New Nordhavn?

A New Nordhavn?
Much of the innovation and design develop comes from customer suggestion and many new concepts are worked on. One such design is particularly interesting as it offers a significant variation on the standard layout themes and offers some very unique features.
All Nordhavns are designed to cross oceans but this all new design places an even greater emphasis on ocean crossing capability while maximizing interior accommodations that are well suited for offshore conditions as well as dockside living. At 56 feet and with a displacement of 126,000 pounds this new vessel is ready to tackle the toughest and longest ocean passages.
Standard propulsion will include the venerable 4.5 liter John Deere engines in a twin configuration and a fuel capacity of 2,335 gallons. This package combined with an efficient hull design will allow for a very comfortable transoceanic range and will retain the ability to maintain near normal cruising speed and positive direction control even if one of the two engines fail. Props are protected with skegs and attached rudders.
There are some very compelling arguments in favor of the layout and design and we felt it worthy of sharing it.

Spring Break
Addictedtoyachts.com
The crews have been very busy over the last 15 hours (must be Spring Break on Galveston Island), with a D/A vessel near Pelican Island last night, and this morning after completing High Interest Boarding's offshore BM1 Reeves and his crew were diverted to (2) Kayaks adrift with a 14 and 16 year old boys adrift and fatigued 6 miles offshore tied to a rig. Fortunately, their cell phone worked and the kids were smart enough to Google the CG's phone number, although the GPS app they used to find the secret fishing spot should be avoided. Nice work on bringing the kids home!!! Source and photo Credit USCG Station Galveston

The Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, begins a 30-day comment period March 6 concerning its proposed recreational lockage policy for the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.
Under the proposed policy, all Arkansas locks except Trimble Lock and Dam outside Fort Smith, Ark., and Ozark Lock and Dam in Ozark, Ark., will close to recreational vessels from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday excluding federal holidays to allow Corps personnel to focus on maintenance at the locks.
The scheduled maintenance period for Trimble and Ozark will continue to be 8 a.m. to noon daily.
The proposed recreation lockage policy was developed after a series of public workshops last year sought input from all users.
“The navigation industry wants a reliable system and understand that preventive maintenance is important to maintain the system, while recreational users wanted it to be available primarily during the weekends and for large special events,” Little Rock District’s Chief of Operations John Balgavy said. “We recognize the importance of the system to both commercial and recreational traffic and want our policies to achieve the desired goal with minimal impact to users.”
The policy will take into account special scheduled events such as bass tournaments, flotillas, and civic celebrations.
Commercial towboats along with government and emergency response personnel in watercrafts will be locked through during the maintenance windows if the lock is operational.
The comment period will be March 6 through April 4. Comments can be e-mailed to CESWL-OP-OM@usace.army.mil. The proposed policy can we viewed at the following website:
“The Little Rock District will continue working with the public with the aim of making the MKARNS a resilient, reliable, and sustainable system that optimizes the value of the system to all users and beneficiaries while making the best use of available resources,” Balgavy said.
For more information, contact James McKinnie, Little Rock District’s Navigation and Maintenance Section, at 501-324-5739, or email CESWL-OP-OM@usace.army.mil.
